TikTok Ban Looms Again as House Lawmakers Pass Bill

House Lawmakers have once again passed legislation that could lead to a nationwide TikTok ban, renewing a massive threat to the popular social media platform.
In a statement, TikTok said it is unfortunate that lawmakers are using the cover of important foreign and humanitarian assistance to once again target the company.
If enacted, the bill would give TikTok roughly five months to separate from ByteDance, its parent company, or else app stores in the United States would be required to remove it.
In March 2024, the House Energy and Commerce Committee advanced a bill calling for TikTok to cut ties with its parent company or face a ban.
The House passed a bill Wednesday that would require ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, to sell the app or face a ban on its operation in the United States.
