Jackson State head coach Deion Sanders explained that his son, Shedeur Sanders, was "just being a good kid" after the younger Sanders was seen helping up a Colorado player after a game.
Shedeur Sanders' gesture took place during Saturday night's game between Jackson State and Colorado in Boulder, Colorado.
As the game ended, Shedeur Sanders approached Colorado wide receiver Daniel Arias, who had just dropped a pass on a potential game-winning touchdown, and helped him to his feet.
The gesture was captured by cameras and has since been widely circulated on social media, with many praising Shedeur Sanders for his sportsmanship.
Deion Sanders said he was proud of his son for his actions.
"I was really happy to see that," Deion Sanders said. "That's the way we were raised. We were always taught to be respectful, and to help others."
The elder Sanders added that he believes his son's gesture is a reflection of the values of the Jackson State program.
"That's what we're trying to instill in our players," Deion Sanders said. "We want them to be good people, on and off the field."
Shedeur Sanders' gesture has been praised by many, including Colorado head coach Karl Dorrell.
"That was a great gesture," Dorrell said. "It shows that he's a young man of good character."
